Stainless steel provides the basis for a number of items in the engineering and manufacturing sectors, including many of our shims, washers and gaskets. It was discovered in the early 20th century, and generally consists of a steel alloy which contains more than 10.5% chromium.
The molecular makeup of stainless steel gives it a number of impressive properties. Unlike ordinary steel, it will not rust or corrode, which makes it ideal for items such as washers, which are often exposed to the elements and need to maintain their strength and properties over time. It also comes in a number of different grades, too, meaning that there’ll always be a type of stainless steel that has the particular properties to meet your specific requirements.
It is prevented from rusting or corroding due to the chromium content forming a film of chromium oxide, which blocks oxygen from reaching the steel itself. It’s also a very versatile material, with a number of different finishes available, including matte, satin and brushed effects.
Stainless Steel Washers
In terms of washers, stainless steel is generally used to help spread the load of a screw or bolt, which prevents damage to the surface of the appliance itself, with the stainless steel washers taking the impact. Form A metric washers are the most popular type of washers used in Europe, with Form B washers being slightly thinner, and of the previous British Standard.
We are able to manufacture washers, shims and gaskets to any requirements you might have, including diameter, thickness, grades of stainless steel and specific properties. You can order in any quantity, too, with no minimum order thresholds to worry about. As one of the country’s leading shim washer suppliers, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
